Experience Something Truly Unique in Nuuksio This October: Join the Wine in the Dark Woods Tasting
October evenings in Southern Finland are dim and filled with the crisp, fragrant air of autumn. The forests sway in the rhythm of the season, and lakes and ponds still ripple free of ice. For this special time of year, we have created an experience that brings light, joy, and relaxation to the threshold of the darkest season: just a stone’s throw from Helsinki, at the gateway to Nuuksio National Park, you can take part in the Wine in the Dark Woods wine tasting on every Saturday in October 2025.
We have received glowing feedback on our professional guides and sommelier as well as on the event’s warm atmosphere, and now we are excited to share how this experience unfolds – and how you can be part of it.
A Relaxing Evening Begins at Haltia
Your evening starts at the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia, located at Nuuksiontie 84, Espoo. You can easily get there by car or by bus (245 from Espoo Centre, stop: Solvalla/Haltia). There is both a spacious free parking area and a bus stop right in front of Haltia’s striking building.
At Haltia, our nature guide will welcome you. You don’t need prior hiking experience, wine knowledge, or special gear to join – and there’s certainly no need for high heels or a tie. All that matters is that you dress for the weather. On rainy days, a raincoat or umbrella is a great choice, and comfortable shoes for a forest path covered with sand or needles will keep you steady. Our guide will ensure that your walk to the tasting site is safe and pleasant.
Tuning into the Forest
When everyone has gathered, the first part of the experience begins. Your guide will lead you from Haltia into the surrounding forest along a wide trail. Under their guidance, you’ll tune your senses to the natural frequency of the forest. Just 15 minutes spent in nature has been shown to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and stress levels. Nature also makes it easier to think positively and feel hopeful – things many of us long for today.
Our guides know the Nuuksio wilderness like the back of their hand, and with them you’ll enjoy an enriching nature experience on the way to the wine tasting. Listen to the whispering spruce trees, breathe in the scents of autumn, let your eyes rest in the dusk settling around you, and take a moment to touch the textures of the forest, like the bark of a tree. Immerse yourself in the Finnish forest with all your senses – and very soon, you will also taste it as the Wine in the Dark Woods experience begins.
A Light-Filled Sanctuary in the Dark Woods
When you arrive at the site, you’ll find something truly atmospheric and beautiful: a tipi-like hall of light, set up in the embrace of the dark forest. It is illuminated by lanterns, and its benches are covered with warm, soft furs inviting you to sit back and relax.
Here, our sommelier will welcome you. With extensive experience in wines, they have carefully selected each wine for the evening, taking into account the qualities of the surrounding nature. During the night, you’ll taste European red wines produced sustainably, while the sommelier shares fascinating insights into how these wines and the Finnish forest around you can be connected in surprising ways.
Alongside the wines, you will sample delicious tastes from the Finnish wilderness – such as syrups prepared by the sommelier – which perfectly complement the selected wines. Meanwhile, the lights of the hall highlight the forest’s shadows and create a homely, intimate, and joyfully relaxed atmosphere, where everyone can simply be themselves and recharge in the refreshing forest air as the autumn night deepens around you.
The Wine in the Dark Woods experience lasts about 2.5 hours, including the forest walk, and offers a journey for all your senses. At the end of the event, our guide will safely lead the group back to Haltia.
Limited Seats in October – Or a Private Experience Anytime
The Wine in the Dark Woods tasting is held every Saturday evening in October 2025. You can book tickets individually. Come alone, with a friend, or with a small group. Each tasting is limited to just 14 participants, so be sure to reserve your place early. Book your spot right away!
If you would prefer to enjoy the experience exclusively with your own group, you can also book a private tasting at any time of the year.
The experience can also be arranged with assisted accessibility in Haltia’s nearby forest.
