A Guided and Deeply Relaxing Sauna Experience Just Outside Helsinki: Silent Sauna

At the Saivo sauna of the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia in Nuuksio National Park, you can now enjoy a relaxing sauna session guided by a professional host, our very own Master of Sauna. The Silent Sauna is a two-hour, holistic, multi-sensory, and deeply soothing experience in which the host’s carefully conducted steam ritual and the calming silence of the sauna support recovery and help you let go of stress.

You are welcome to attend the first Silent Sauna on Outdoor Saturday in March, 7 March. You may book a place just for yourself or come along with a friend. Although the Saivo sauna is spacious, we keep the group size small to ensure the experience remains as relaxing as possible.

One of our sauna masters, Piritta Kallio, says she first conceived the idea for the experience in the Saivo sauna at Haltia, while sitting alone and enjoying the steam.

“The idea grew out of my love for the sauna, years of experience in meditative practice, and the understanding that these two could be combined. In this hectic era, I truly believe it is important to make a journey from the mind to the heart and to quiet down in a genuine way,” Piritta explains.

“No prior knowledge of sauna bathing or meditative practice is required to participate. Come exactly as you are – on your own, with a partner, or in a group,” Piritta encourages.

Welcome to the Sauna

The sauna master welcomes the guests and begins by explaining how the experience will unfold. Hurry and any sense of pressure are left behind at the door of the Saivo cabinet: undressing and washing before entering the sauna take place unhurriedly in the comfortable washing facilities of the Saivo sauna, where high-quality bathing products are provided.

Everyone is welcome to the Outdoor Saturday sauna session regardless of gender, and swimwear is worn in the sauna. Washing facilities and the use of the dressing room are arranged separately for different genders. The sauna host is always dressed in clothing or a towel.

The Silent Sauna

The intention is to enjoy the sauna in near-complete silence, to embrace the quiet, and—once the restless chatter of the mind settles—to hear the voice of the heart. Participants may relax even with their eyes closed while the sauna master works quietly: creating the steam, ensuring a supply of fresh air, and circulating the warmth evenly throughout the sauna.

You may leave the sauna at any time, step out for water, or cool off outdoors on the scenic terrace, which is directly accessible from the Saivo cabinet.

Fresh drinking water is available both in the dressing room and in the cabinet area.

Guided Relaxation

After the Silent Sauna, the mind, body, and heart settle into a wonderfully tranquil state. To ensure that the transition between the sauna and the outside world is not too abrupt, we conclude with a guided relaxation and quiet reflection session in the Saivo cabinet. You may relax according to your preference, either seated or lying down. Light savoury snacks and warm tea are served.

How to Book the Silent Sauna

You may now book the Silent Sauna experience for your own group by sending an email to [email protected]. Provided that your group dynamics allow it, the gender of the participants is not significant to us. Within your group, you may decide whether you wish to sauna nude, in swimwear, or for example wrapped in towels.

The experience is at its most relaxing with a maximum of 4–5 participants.

The Silent Sauna experience can also be conducted in English instead of Finnish, if desired.
