Only here in far north can you expect to find nature untouched by humans only 30 kilometres from the country’s capital. Nuuksio offers you hideaways, possibilities for short treks or multi-day hikes, a visitor centre and wilderness lakes. All accessible with either public transportation or by a car.
Enjoy the area according to your liking: rent a vessel for waterways (kayak, canoe or sup-board) or a fatbike for appropriate trails. Find the cave close to Haltia visitor centre or look for at least one of the areas many “gian’t kettles” – hollow natural rock formations. Join a guided tour on marked trails and taste the traditional Finnish delicacy “plätty”, nordic pancakes.

Lying in the southern edge of Finnish inland blue gem – the lakeland district – there’s Isojärvi National park. The destination described as the heart of Finland is composed of the most loved landscapes: alluring lakeshores, winding paths between fairytale woodlands and rocky hills with cliffs made for gazing sunsets.
Wide variety of outdoor activities wait for you in Central Finland: linger by a bonfire, visit Heretty Cabin Cafe and service centre or rent out the necessary exploration equipment and paddle away with a kayak.
In Isojärvi National Park you’ll be sure to experience Sincere Wilderness, which means focusing on the essential and enjoying the natural world without putting on a show. Ignite the bonfire and let your mind wander. Inhale the living world around you. Let your eyes follow the buzzing dance of insects. Cook on fire. Pour yourself some coffee. Take a dip in a lake. Make no sound. Count the stars. Repeat.
Heretty headquarters is the perfect starting point for your adventures in Isojärvi National Park. This former lumberjack cabin has been given a new life as a service centre for National Park visitors and in summer time it operates as a wilderness cafe too.
You can rent out necessary outdoor gear for both forest paths and waterways. Have you ever before tried to go the distance with a fatbike? There are plenty of camping sites in Isojärvi National Park but you can also find accommodation in Heretty Cabin.

Lortikka can accommodate up to 20 persons with the interior area being 100m2. There are three rooms and a kitchen. Sauna, dry toilet, woodshed and a bonfire place are situated outdoors.
